Main Page error reports

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 19:03 on 4 May 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Nowhere in the article does it say that Donald Trump demolished this building, not does it even say that he directed its demo. The last phrase needs to be clarified, as the current wording implies Trump was out there demoing the building himself. But even then, the article needs to state this clearer, that Trump actually directed its demo. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:02, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see a problem with this myself. Trump purchased the building and it was demolished to make way for his new tower. It's clear that as the building's owner, Trump was responsible for its demolition, and I don't think readers would infer from this that he personally pressed the button to begin the demolition of anything.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:42, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
  • The hook for T. D. Bancroft isn't referenced. It states, "An eyewitness to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, he toured the United States giving lectures about Abraham Lincoln." in the lead, but that is not expanded on with a reference in the article body. The article's body says, "Bancroft was the author of a pamphlet about Lincoln published in recognition of the centennial of the United States. In it Bancroft emphasized Lincoln's relationship to the temperance movement." which isn't the same thing. Only the eyewitness bit is verifed - "On April 14, 1865, Bancroft was in the audience at Ford's Theatre when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated." SL93 (talk) 17:54, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
—Seconding this. The current hook is "... that temperance movement activist T. D. Bancroft (pictured) witnessed Abraham Lincoln's assassination and lectured about it across America?" The closest of the proposed hooks was ALT3: "... that temperance movement activist T. D. Bancroft (pictured) witnessed Abraham Lincoln's assassination and later became a prominent lecturer about that event across America?", sourced to 2 offline obituaries. This was not one of the preferred hooks, and as SL93 states, the second part of it is not present in the article save for a bare assertion at the top. The hook in its current form was [1] substituted into the queue by Narutolovehinata5; I'm not sure where its wording came from. Suggest replacing the hook with the original ALT2: {{tq|... that in an 1876 United States centennial publication T. D. Bancroft (pictured) was the first person to write about Abraham Lincoln's relationship with his dog Fido?" That's all in the article with a reference, albeit only at the end of a paragraph covering two different pamphlets he published. Yngvadottir (talk) 18:44, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • The tornado tracked 28.8 miles (46.3 kilometers) through the area, killing at least eleven people and injuring sixty-three others
The "eleven" needs changed to "twelve", the POTD was added to the template prior to the "Ablah" study that outlined 12 deaths from the tornado being utilized in the article, and I forgot to update it. — EF5 (questions?) 00:04, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

General discussion

On this Day: Dachau liberation

"and killed German prisoners of war." Would it not be more accurate to say 'and killed German war criminals'? They were guards at Dachau, and since 2011, the court ruling was that "hat working as a guard at a camp whose only purpose was the extermination of its prisoners, was sufficient for a conviction for accessory to murder". Seems like wording it this way is sugar-coating the conduct of these German guards, and denigrating the American soldiers (and camp inmates) who killed them. Not quite Holocaust denial, but similar to it. T bonham (talk) 06:37, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

POW is neutral, whilst "war criminals" is loaded. What we've got is in line with WP policy. Schwede66 08:38, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Executing PoWs are also considered a war crime regardless of context. If you wish to introduce war crimes into the blurb, then the entire sentence should be restructured to do justice. GGOTCC 17:31, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

June 20 TFA and PotD: Jaws (film)

On June 20, the 50th anniversary of the release of the film Jaws, both TFA and PotD will mark the occasion. As the TFA scheduling coordinator for June, I picked a different image from the PotD to avoid duplication, but their text is similar to ours. I'm being proactive and asking for ideas as to best to do this and avoid later criticism of duplication, etc. Potd: here; TFA here.--Wehwalt (talk) 18:56, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
